Nobody puts vegetable garden in the corner

Rosemary, thyme, and oregano. Start there, with classic culinary herbs that are easy to grow and need very little water. Whether you plant in the landscape or in a container, you want something that’s just going to hang out there, doing its job, being evergreen, and holding the space.
— Stefani Bittner, The Beautiful Edible Garden

Perhaps the time has come to rethink the "formal" vegetable gardens of yesteryear. With the busy and hectic lives that most families have today, planting and maintaining a large vegetable garden is just not possible. I mean come on, who will take the kids to sports, feed the dog, do the laundry, and make sure all the homework is done?! Well, authors Leslie Bennett and Stefani Bittner sympathize. These folks released a book in 2013 that explores the idea of mixing edibles into the regular plantings of your landscape. Gardenista caught up with the authors—you can read the full story here.
